As a Media Studies student at Thompson Rivers University, my long-term career goal is to work in the field of digital media and visual communication. I am particularly interested in graphic design, illustration, and creative media production. Throughout my studies, I have been drawn to projects that combine artistic expression with communication and storytelling. My portfolio reflects my interest in using visual design to communicate ideas in engaging and creative ways. By developing both technical and creative skills, I aim to build a career where I can contribute to visual media, design, and digital storytelling.
During my time at TRU, I have developed a range of skills that support this career goal. Through coursework and personal projects, I have gained experience using creative software such as Adobe Illustrator, Clip Studio Paint, and Canva to produce visual designs and illustrations. Many of the pieces in this portfolio demonstrate my ability to experiment with visual style, composition, and typography. For example, the typographic collage project included in this portfolio explores how visual elements can communicate meaning through colour, layout, and layered imagery. This project reflects the TRU institutional learning outcome of Exploration, as it required experimentation with creative techniques and visual approaches to produce a unique design.
My experiences at TRU have also strengthened my ability to engage with creative work and develop my artistic voice. Through both academic assignments and independent creative projects, I have continued to refine my design skills while exploring new ideas and visual strategies. These experiences reflect the learning outcome of Engagement, as they demonstrate my active participation in developing creative work and applying the skills I have learned during my studies.
